In this chapter the dialogue between Vimalakīrti and Mañjuśrī again culminates in 'silence.' Mañjuśrī exclaims in praise of Vimalakīrti's 'wordless silence' (默然無言): 'Excellent! Excellent! Not even words or letters — this is truly entering the Dharma-gate of non-duality.' As this scene concludes, the five thousand bodhisattvas present all entered the Dharma-gate of non-duality and attained the tolerance of the unborn Dharma (無生法忍). The sutra's deepest teaching ultimately resolves into 'the truth within silence beyond the limits of language and concepts.' This chapter discloses the non-dual theme that runs throughout the entire Vimalakīrti-nirdeśa in its most concentrated and intense form, concluding the scripture.
