시편 Chapter 98

Translation: ESV

1

Oh sing to the LORD a new song, for he has done marvelous things! His right hand and his holy arm have worked salvation for him.

Key Message

God's marvelous acts of salvation are the most fundamental reason for a new song.

Like Psalm 96, this psalm opens with a 'new song.

Like Psalm 96, this psalm opens with a 'new song.' But here the basis is the 'marvelous things (nifla'ot)' that God has done. 'His right hand and his holy arm' symbolize God's direct power of salvation. This is salvation accomplished by God himself alone.

4

Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth; break forth into joyous song and sing praises!

Key Message

The news of God's salvation becomes a reason for the whole world to shout and sing together in praise.

If verse 1 began with Israel's salvation as the basis, from verse 4 the whole world is invited to worship.

7

Let the sea roar, and all that fills it; the world and those who dwell in it!

Key Message

God's praise extends beyond human beings to encompass all of creation.

The entire natural world — the sea, the world, and their inhabitants — is also invited to praise God.

9

before the LORD, for he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world with righteousness, and the peoples with equity.

Key Message

The judgment of the righteous God can be awaited with expectation and joy rather than fear.

This is the same conclusion as Psalm 96:13.
