시편 Chapter 30

Translation: ESV

1

I will extol you, O LORD, for you have drawn me up and have not let my foes rejoice over me.

Key Message

The most natural response to God's deliverance is praise that exalts him.

Psalm 30 is recorded in its heading as a psalm for the dedication of the temple, and is a psalm of thanksgiving for recovery from illness.

Psalm 30 is recorded in its heading as a psalm for the dedication of the temple, and is a psalm of thanksgiving for recovery from illness. 'I will extol you (aromimkha)' — to lift up, to praise — and 'you have drawn me up (dallitani)' — the image of drawing up from water — express thanksgiving for dramatic deliverance. That God prevented enemies from rejoicing over one's suffering is itself God's victory.

5

For his anger is but for a moment, and his favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning.

Key Message

Pain is momentary but God's favor is for a lifetime — after the evening of weeping, the morning of joy surely comes.

The most beautiful verse in Psalm 30.

11

You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; you have loosed my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness,

Key Message

God is the one who transforms mourning into dancing — this transformation is both the experience of salvation and eschatological hope.

'You have turned my mourning into dancing' is one of the most dynamic images expressing God's transforming work.
