Key Message

Love gives birth to sorrow; sorrow gives birth to fear. Freedom from attachment dissolves both sorrow and fear.

From love (愛) arises sorrow (憂); from sorrow arises fear (怖).

From love (愛) arises sorrow (憂); from sorrow arises fear (怖). If one is freed from love, what sorrow can there be? What fear? In just two lines, this teaching perfectly expresses the chain linking attachment to suffering. The sequence runs in reverse as well: freedom from attachment dissolves both sorrow and fear simultaneously.
