▸The Precept Against Speaking of the Faults of the Four Assemblies (不說四衆過戒) is the sixth major precept, which forbids the reckless disclosure of the faults and transgressions of the four assemblies (四衆) — monks (比丘), nuns (比丘尼), laymen (優婆塞), and laywomen (優婆夷).
The Precept Against Speaking of the Faults of the Four Assemblies (不說四衆過戒) is the sixth major precept, which forbids the reckless disclosure of the faults and transgressions of the four assemblies (四衆) — monks (比丘), nuns (比丘尼), laymen (優婆塞), and laywomen (優婆夷). It encompasses speaking of such faults oneself, inducing others to do so, and providing any condition that facilitates such speech. When non-Buddhists or followers of the Two Vehicles (二乘) slander what is within the Buddha-Dharma as contrary to the Dharma or Vinaya, a bodhisattva should respond with compassion — transforming such malicious persons and causing them to develop wholesome faith. It is a pārājika offense for a bodhisattva to instead go about publicly exposing faults within the Buddha-Dharma.
