시편 Chapter 72

Translation: ESV

1

Give the king your justice, O God, and your righteousness to the royal son!

Key Message

The rule of the ideal king must derive from God's own justice and righteousness.

This is both a prayer for the ideal king and a psalm foreshadowing the Messiah.

This is both a prayer for the ideal king and a psalm foreshadowing the Messiah. What is most needed for a king's rule is justice and righteousness that come from God. It shows that the virtues a human king must possess originate from God's own character.

12

For he delivers the needy when he calls, the poor and him who has no helper.

Key Message

The ideal leader (Messiah) cares for the weakest and those who have no one to help them.

The core of the ideal king's (Messiah's) ministry is the liberation of the poor and oppressed.

17

May his name endure forever, his fame continue as long as the sun! May people be blessed in him, all nations call him blessed!

Key Message

Through the Messiah, Abraham's blessing reaches all nations, and his name is praised forever.

This is a declaration that the Messianic king's name will endure forever and continue as long as the sun.

19

Blessed be his glorious name forever; may the whole earth be filled with his glory! Amen and Amen!

Key Message

The eschatological vision that God's glory will fill the whole earth is the ultimate hope of faith.

This is the closing doxology of Book II of the Psalms (Psalms 42-72).
