시편 Chapter 28

Translation: ESV

1

To you, O LORD, I call; my rock, be not deaf to me, lest, if you be silent to me, I become like those who go down to the pit.

Key Message

Broken communication with God is like spiritual death for the believer, and this sense of crisis gives birth to earnest prayer.

Psalm 28 is a petition offered in a desperate situation where, without help, one would be 'like those who go down to the pit.

Psalm 28 is a petition offered in a desperate situation where, without help, one would be 'like those who go down to the pit.' 'My rock (tsuri)' is a title confessing God as a solid foundation and refuge. 'If you be silent (teherash)' — if you do not speak, if you do not answer — shows what God's silence means to the believer. Broken communication with God is like spiritual death.

7

The LORD is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him.

Key Message

From a heart that has experienced God's help, joy and praise naturally flow — this is the essence of thanksgiving worship.

This verse, transitioning from petition to trust and praise, is the theological heart of Psalm 28.

9

Oh, save your people and bless your heritage! Be their shepherd and carry them forever.

Key Message

Personal prayer must expand into intercession for the community, and God is shepherd of the individual while simultaneously being shepherd of the community.
