Blessed be the LORD, my rock, who trains my hands for war, and my fingers for battle;

All human capabilities and skills are what God has taught—God is the source of all ability.

This is David's war psalm.

This is David's war psalm. 'My rock'—the same expression as in Psalm 18. He praises God for teaching military capability. This is a confession that the skills of warfare are also taught by God.

O LORD, what is man that you regard him, or the son of man that you think of him?

Humanity's true value comes from the fact that the Almighty God regards and thinks of each person.

This is the same question as in Psalm 8:4.

I will sing a new song to you, O God; upon a ten-stringed harp I will play to you,

The experience of victory and salvation must be responded to with a new song and rich instruments of praise to God.

'A new song'—a response to God's new act of salvation.

May our sons in their youth be like plants full grown, our daughters like corner pillars cut for the structure of a palace;

Praying for children to grow up healthy and beautifully is the longing of faithful parents.

This is a beautiful prayer for children.

Blessed are the people to whom such blessings fall! Blessed are the people whose God is the LORD!

Key Message

The source of all blessing lies in the relationship of having the LORD as one's God.
