The LORD says to my Lord: "Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies your footstool."

Your people will offer themselves freely on the day of your power, in holy garments; from the womb of the morning, the dew of your youth will be yours.

The Messiah's rule is accomplished through the people's voluntary devotion rather than compulsion; this is the characteristic of the new covenant.

This is a prophecy that on the day of the Messiah's power, the people will freely volunteer.

The LORD has sworn and will not change his mind, "You are a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek."

Key Message

Jesus Christ is simultaneously king and eternal high priest after the order of Melchizedek, an office guaranteed by God's unchanging oath.

This is the prophecy that the Messiah is 'a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.

The Lord is at your right hand; he will shatter kings on the day of his wrath.

Key Message

The Messiah who patiently waits will on the day of judgment completely overcome all opposition.

The Messiah who in verse 1 sits at God's right hand, in verse 5 goes forth as judge to shatter kings.

He will drink from the brook by the way; therefore he will lift up his head.

Key Message

The Messiah receives ultimate exaltation after completing the mission of humiliation; this is the pattern of the cross and resurrection.

This is the image of a warrior who does not stop but drinks from a stream and presses on.
