시편 Chapter 106

Translation: ESV

1

Praise the LORD! Oh give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever!

Key Message

Despite Israel's repeated failures, the unchanged goodness and eternal steadfast love of God is the foundation of hope.

Psalm 106 is the counterpart to Psalm 105; while Psalm 105 emphasizes God's faithfulness, Psalm 106 confesses Israel's repeated disobedience.

Psalm 106 is the counterpart to Psalm 105; while Psalm 105 emphasizes God's faithfulness, Psalm 106 confesses Israel's repeated disobedience. 'He is good, for his steadfast love endures forever' is Israel's core confession of faith, repeated also in Psalms 107, 118, and 136.

6

Both we and our fathers have sinned; we have committed iniquity; we have done wickedness.

Key Message

True repentance is accepting not only personal sin but also the sins of the community and generations as one's own.

A corporate confession of sin begins.

7

Our fathers, when they were in Egypt, did not consider your wondrous works; they did not remember the abundance of your steadfast love, but rebelled by the sea, at the Red Sea.

Key Message

Failing to remember God's grace is the beginning of rebellion; gratitude and memory are the foundations of the life of faith.

The essence of sin is failing to understand the meaning of God's wondrous works and not remembering his grace even after experiencing them.

23

Therefore he said he would destroy them— had not Moses, his chosen one, stood in the breach before him, to turn away his wrath from destroying them.

Key Message

The intercessor stands between God's wrath and the people to become a channel of salvation, foreshadowing the perfect intercession of Christ.

Moses' intercession prevented the destruction of Israel.

43

Many times he delivered them, but they were rebellious in their purposes and were brought low through their iniquity.

Key Message

God's mercy does not grow weary despite repeated failures; this is the greatness of grace.

'Many times he delivered them' expresses God's repeated mercy, while 'rebellious in their purposes' shows Israel's stubborn defiance.

47

Save us, O LORD our God, and gather us from among the nations, that we may give thanks to your holy name and glory in your praise.

Key Message

Prayer in the midst of suffering seeks salvation for the glory and thanksgiving of God; the purpose of salvation is praise.

This is the prayer for return by those in exile.

48

Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting! And let all the people say, 'Amen!' Praise the LORD!

Key Message

That praise becomes the last word even after remembering all the failures and graces of history is the victory of faith.

This is the conclusion of Book IV (Psalms 90-106) and the ending of Psalm 106.
