출애굽기 Chapter 31

Translation: ESV

2

See, I have called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah,

Key Message

God knows and calls his people by name, designating each person with a specific calling.

God calls Bezalel 'by name' (beshem).

God calls Bezalel 'by name' (beshem). This demonstrates God's personal relationship—calling a specific individual by name. The selection of Bezalel from the tribe of Judah connects with the prophecy that the royal line would come from Judah, hinting at the close relationship between God's sanctuary and kingship.

3

And I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with ability and intelligence, with knowledge and all craftsmanship.

Key Message

Artistic and technical ability also comes from God's Spirit, and every occupation and skill in the world can become a calling to serve God.

The source of Bezalel's ability to build the tabernacle is the Spirit of God (Ruah Elohim).

13

You are to speak to the people of Israel and say, 'Above all you shall keep my Sabbaths, for this is a sign between me and you throughout your generations, that you may know that I, the LORD, sanctify you.'

Key Message

The Sabbath is the covenant sign between God and his people—no matter how important the ministry, it cannot replace the relationship with God itself.

In the midst of the tabernacle construction instructions, the Sabbath command is suddenly inserted.

17

It is a sign forever between me and the people of Israel that in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested and was refreshed.

Key Message

The human Sabbath is participation in the rest of the Creator God, and true rest is found only in relationship with God.

The grounding of the Sabbath in the creation order is confirmed again.

18

And he gave to Moses, when he had finished speaking with him on Mount Sinai, the two tablets of the testimony, tablets of stone, written with the finger of God.

Key Message

God's Word carries absolute authority as it is given directly by God himself.

At the moment all God's instructions are concluded, two stone tablets written by God himself are given to Moses.
