출애굽기 Chapter 26

Translation: ESV

1

Moreover, you shall make the tabernacle with ten curtains of fine twined linen and blue and purple and scarlet yarns; you shall make them with cherubim skillfully worked into them.

Key Message

The cherubim embroidered on the innermost curtain of the tabernacle declares that God's space of presence is a holy realm protected by heavenly boundaries.

The innermost covering of the tabernacle consists of ten curtains of delicate linen embroidered with cherubim.

The innermost covering of the tabernacle consists of ten curtains of delicate linen embroidered with cherubim. The cherubim pattern symbolizes the heavenly beings who guard God's presence, and passing through this curtain means entering a heavenly realm. The three colors—blue, purple, and scarlet—simultaneously symbolize heaven, royalty, and sacrifice.

6

And you shall make fifty clasps of gold, and couple the curtains one to the other with the clasps, so that the tabernacle may be a single whole.

Key Message

Just as separated parts are joined by clasps into one, God's presence is the force that integrates the community into a single whole.

The two sets of curtains are connected with fifty gold clasps so that the tabernacle becomes one unified structure.

31

And you shall make a veil of blue and purple and scarlet yarns and fine twined linen. It shall be made with cherubim skillfully worked into it.

Key Message

The curtain dividing the Holy of Holies symbolizes the barrier between God's holiness and human sin, and through Christ's sacrifice this barrier has been permanently removed.

The materials and design of the inner curtain (parokhet) dividing the Holy of Holies from the Holy Place are specified.

33

And you shall hang the veil from the clasps, and bring the ark of the testimony in there within the veil. And the veil shall separate for you the Holy Place from the Most Holy.

Key Message

The spatial distinction teaches God's perfect holiness, and in Christ this barrier is removed so that all believers may boldly approach God.

The curtain becomes the boundary separating the Holy Place from the Most Holy Place.

34

And you shall put the mercy seat on the ark of the testimony in the Most Holy Place.

Key Message

The mercy seat in the Most Holy Place is where God's presence and the forgiveness of sin meet—the holiest place of all—and Christ's cross is the eternal fulfillment of this atonement ritual.

The central arrangement of the Most Holy Place is confirmed: the mercy seat is placed on top of the ark of the covenant.

36

You shall make a screen for the entrance of the tent, of blue and purple and scarlet yarns and fine twined linen, embroidered with needlework.

Key Message

The tabernacle entrance is the gateway into God's presence, and Christ is the door of the sheep through whom alone we may come to the Father.

A second curtain is made for the entrance of the tabernacle.
